We like strange USB gadgets: Brando’s new gizmo plugs into a USB port and gives you accurate temperature and humidity measurements, on a second-by-second basis, if you like. It even logs the data for you, in a spreadsheet-friendly fashion. So that you can, you know, predict if it’s going to rain on your laptop. Maybe you put a long lead on it, and dangle it out the window? I don’t know. For those of you really into that kind of microclimate data collection, it works between -40ºC and 120ºC, measures humidity 0-100% and works with XP/Vista. Available now for $24. [Geek Alerts]

Dancing… is… a primitive art-form… used in ancient times to express oneself with… the body! And communicate!

This is my new favorite gadget (though the video, on the other side, is a tiny long). It’s called the International Dance Party and, in response to nearby dancing people, it goes off like the Fourth of July if Paul Oakenfold, Laidback Luke and Dave Seaman were Founding Fathers. (I hear Madison liked drum and bass, like John Biggs did in a past life.) Computer-controlled (what isn’t?!), TDP has a blue siren on top and Fast and the Furious-esque undercarriage lighting. And there’s a built-in smoke machine, too, like so many overpriced clubs.

What you can’t see here’s that Peter is singing not just because he has the iPhone, but because there’s an IDP just out of frame.

Incoming college freshman, you wanna make friends? IDP, not to be confused with the slightly less cool ICP.

Fortune is reporting that Microsoft may be eyeing the iPhone as a potential outlet for their warez teams, including programming Office applications and voice control for Apple’s joy box.

“It’s really important for us to understand what we can bring to the iPhone,” Tom Gibbons, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Specialized Devices and Applications Group, told Fortune on Monday. “To the extent that Mac Office customers have functionality that they need in that environment, we’re actually in the process of trying to understand that now.”

This comes fast on the heels of the SDK announcement and some rumors that Slilverlight might be coming to the iPhone before Flash.

Wasting money on high-priced audio cables is one thing, but spending money on “audiophile grade” power cables? That seems downright idiotic. So you probably won’t be too surprised to learn that $300 Virtual Dynamics Power 3 cables contain about $15 worth of components.

Yes, a poster on the Head-Fi forums had his fancy-pants power cable disemboweled by his cat, only to discover very tiny of value inside. Once ripped open, all he found was “a couple of bucks worth of 14 AWG PVC insulated bulk wire (VD’s “LiniPur” conductors) and some ferrite powder, (VD’s “5 dielectric layers”) shoved into some heavy braided-wall PVC tubing to make it appear thick and meaty, and put together with dirt cheap connectors and DIY build quality.”

But honestly, if you spend $300 on a power cable, you know, deep down, that you’re pretty much throwing your money away, so you shouldn’t be too surprised. [Audio Junkies]
