Lee Spievack accidentally cut off his fingertip working on an airplane. His brother, a research scientist, sent him powder made up partially out of pig’s bladder and told him to sprinkle it on his fingertip. The finger regrew itself in four weeks. How did it work?
Researchers are using materials such as the pig’s bladder, which contains something called extracellular matrix, a “mix of protein and connective tissue surgeons often use to fix tendons.” By using this stuff, combined with the theory that all parts of the body innately “know” how to fix themselves, you should be able to grow back whole limbs (like The Lizard from Spidey). Breathtaking stuff. [CBSNews via Boing Boing]

Success! NTT DoCoMo has successfully tested a Super 3G system out in the field and they managed downlink speeds at 250Mbps. Testing on the Super 3G system that consists of four MIMO antennas has been going on since February just south of Tokyo. The technology should be rolled out next year. Doug and I’ll grab more details on this field test next week at CTIA.
If you’re unsure what Super 3G is then read on, folks.
Psyche! Super 3G is essentially the next evolution of HSDPA and HSUPA. It features low-latency data transmission and high spectrum efficiency.

NTT DoCoMo has just announced that they’ve successfully field tested a Super 3G wireless network that reached downlink speeds of 250Mbps (the technology’s theoretical maximums are a 300Mbps downlink and a 75Mbps uplink, so 250 down ain’t too bad). Unfortunately, given that DoCoMo doesn’t plan on having the technology finalized until 2009, the world won’t be basking in 300ish Mbps mobile bliss just yet. Oh, but EDGE still sucks. [nttdocomo]
