In today and age, you can’t trust anybody. That’s why I’m excited to know about a new hand-held lie detector that the US military has begun using. As soon as a commercial version, I’ll be using it on everyone I know. Where was my girlfriend last night? Is that really the ideal price you can offer? Was I adopted? I’ll finally get reliable, true answers to these and many other important questions. That is, if it’s really accurate.
There’s always been a bit of doubt over the accuracy of polygraph tests, and with the military using them in Afghanistan for what we can assume will be matters of life and death, the same old questions are raised about just how much we have the ability to trust them. I know that I wouldn’t want to rely solely on a lie detector if I was accused of, state, setting a roadside bomb. But hey, if it’ll help me figure out if I was adopted I’m all for it. Mother, dad, why won’t you just tell me the truth already? I’m old enough to know, dammit! [MSNBC]

About a year after its beta launch, Adobe Media Player is in full effect, or almost. Adobe’s little Flash-only scheme for making money on the web has lined up CBS and Viacom properties MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon, plus PBS, Universal Music Group and a few others, though not all of them show up yet in the list of stuff to watch. (That tantalizing Daily Show you see in the promo pic—not available yet.) Remember, unlike other similar programs, this one lets you watch on the internet or off. But like all the rest, it’s only as good as the content it brings to the table. And its interface. And the picture quality. Any beta testers out there want to comment? We’d love to hear your impressions. [Adobe (download) via CNet]

Motorola, a company that helped bring the cell phone to fruition, has been struggling lately. To recapture world market share,
Motorola will name former AT&T chief executive David Dorman to the position of chairman next month. Dorman will be named to
his new position on Might 5 of this year, after Ed Zander retires at the company’s annual meeting.
Dorman will have plenty of work to do. Besides trying to recover market share, Motorola is slated to spin-off its cell phone division. Dorman will also have to deal with billionaire investor Carl Ichhn, who recently won a battle that put two of his nominees on Motorola’s board of directors. Dorman will be in charge of the board but have no state in the day-to-day business of the company.
“Dave is ideally suited to serve as Motorola’s chairman and I’m confident that our shareholders will continue to benefit from his industry knowledge and deep understanding of the company,” CEO Greg Brown said in a statement.
“Motorola has tremendous assets and talented people, and I am confident in the actions Greg Brown, our management team and Board are taking,” Dorman said in a statement

Straight out from Alice’s Wonderland, this magnetic table and dinnerware are designed with four objectives: 1) store your plates, cups and cutlery, upside down, under the table, 2) arrange them neatly on top, 3) erase the data from any hard drive that comes near, and 4) cause head and eye injuries to children and pets. Or drive them mad. And yet, we still want it. More photos after the jump.

The iPhone SDK Beta 3 has barely been out for a few hours and Zibri, maker of the ZiPhone iPhone tool, has found references to a future 3G chip inside the new firmware. The chipset is the SGOLD3, which follows up the current S-GOLD2 in today’s iPhone. Here’s what the S-GOLD3 has support for, not all of which will make it into the next-gen iPhone: HSDPA category 8 (7.2 Mbps), cameras of up to 5-megapixels, MPEG4/H.263 hardware acceleration and “video telephony, streaming, recording and playback.” Again, Apple might not enable all these features in the actual 3G iPhone, but at least we know that they’re theoretically possible.
