Why do I need goggles to watch R/C ships sailing in a pond? Because these replicas of WWII battleships fire C02-powered projectiles. In the video above, you can see munitions bounce off the plexi shields protecting the crowd and make splashes as they ricochet off enemy hulls. The Western Warship Combat Club is recreating Axis vs. Allies fights where each side tries to sink the other. At 1/144 scale. [Western Warship Combat Club Maker Faire]

Are you a little bit fat? Want to lose a bit and then gain it back and then try to lose again? Then hop on a Wii Fit and burn off those pounds. This guy lost 9 pounds playing Wii Sports, gained 19, and now wants to lose them all again on Wii Fit. Not quite sure what he’s gaining in this wacky yo-yo experiment and from the pasty look of his non-belly you’d think he might want to get outside once in a while, but exercise is exercise, right?

You may recognize Alphagrip from their bizarre line of handheld keyboard/trackball mouse hybrid controllers—but by the looks of their entry into Microsoft’s Next Gen Computer design competition, it appears that they’re planning on taking things a step further by integrating a computer screen. The controller itself is basically a beefed-up version of their previous product—a design intended to maximize typing speed, conveniences and comfort.

However, it seems that the guys at Alphagrip have such a boner for ergonomic design that the screen itself seems like an afterthought. Seriously, the whole screen area irritates me—from the heart-shaped frame to the poorly placed controls flanking the display. For these reasons alone, I doubt highly that it will win the competition much less become an actual commercial product in this form. So the clamshell BlackBerry from RIM that surfaced the other day is getting spec’d out thanks to BGR. The KickStart will be quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE with a 2-megapixel camera and Wi-Fi. Following the Pearl’s example, the KickStart will be available in a variety of anodized colors. I don’t know, clamshells could be making a comeback. I kind of dig this one regardless of the fact that it uses a “Next Gen” SureType keyboard. And I like that it’s hitting T-Mobile before AT&T. Well, it’d be much cooler if T-Mobile got the 3G BlackBerry first, though. BGR is predicting a September launch for the KickStart.
