At what point does a handset make the jump from being a phone with a camera attached, to being a camera with a phone attached? Se-nse has managed to get the scoop on Sony Ericsson’s C905, which certainly toes that line.
Sony Ericsson’s packing just about each feature you’d expect from a standalone point-and-shoot into this phone - it’s got an 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, face recognition, image and video stabilization, red eye reduction, Xenon flash, aGPS, Geotagging, WiFi, and DLNA support. It’ll come in Copper Gold, Ice Silver, and Night Black when it’s released in Q4 of this year. At 1044919.5 mm and 136 grams, it’s not exactly a super-model phone - but hey, if it manages to be a reasonable substitute to carrying around a separate camera, we have the ability to excuse a bit of bulk.
Now, it’s important to note that a higher megapixel count does not mean it’ll take better pictures. However, previous Cybershot phones we’ve played with take pics that are far beyond the average camera phone. Sony Ericsson is expected to announce this on June 17th. They have media events scheduled in both Amsterdam and Singapore that afternoon, and we’ll be at the latter - hopefully we’ll be able to get some hands on time while we’re there.
