The Nintendo DS remake of the old Dreamcast favorite Bangai-O Spirits has one very notable feature that we haven’t seen in years. Kotaku found out that instead of using Nintendo’s local Wi-Fi or over-the-net DS codes, you share levels via audio recording. Once you’ve designed something you want your friends to see, it’ll play back that level as an audio recording that you can record it as an audio file on your personal, then send however you send files normally.
To get the levels back on another DS, just play it back over your computer’s speakers and hold up the DS mic to it—the mic will grab the sound and the game will change it back into level code. If only Nintendo didn’t make their on the internet system so horrible to use, the developers wouldn’t have to resort to archaic methods that are pretty much on par with tin cans and strings. PlayPhone, operator of the largest network of mobile content destinations in North America, has
formed a marketing partnership with Cellufun, the world’s largest mobile gaming portal. PlayPhone now has access to over 5.5 million monthly unique visitors, nearly 75 million monthly page views and a big catalog of ad-supported free mobile games from its partner Cellufun.
“This agreement is a win-win for PlayPhone and Cellufun,” said Ron Czerny, Founder and CEO of PlayPhone. “Both companies have very similar customer market segments and cross-promoting mobile entertainment in this manner brings both of our strengths to the table. It is already proving to be successful and because of that, we’ll continue to pursue similar partnerships with other interested celebrations.”
Cellufun’s free ad-supported games are now available at www.playphone.com. The collaboration includes run-of-site advertising and contextual integration of the PlayPhone catalog on the Cellufun WAP portal.
“Having our free, award-winning games distributed through PlayPhone’s vast network is a great opportunity,” said Arthur Goikhman, CEO and Co-founder of Cellufun. “The combination of our unique mobile offerings and PlayPhone’s great mix of branded content has proven to be a real boon for both companies.”

Nintendo of America just posted a job opening on its website for a “Software/Hardware Tester”. Among the job’s responsibilities was creating a plan to bring USB devices to the Wii. It was reported that the job posted 3 days ago on Nintendo.com, but when I went there today I couldn’t find it.
At this time Nintendo has not publicly mentioned that is has plans to bring USB devices to the Wii other than the USB keyboard that is already available.
If Nintendo is indeed planing to take advantage of its USB capabilities, this would make the storage space issues (among others) a thing of the past. All you would have to do is plug in an external drive, and bam, more space for games.
This could be overthinking things, but Nintendo stated this last week: “Consumers have the option of either deleting the game and downloading it again for no additional Wii Points, or transferring the game from Wii to external SD memory card.”
This makes it sound like maybe Nintendo isn’t planning an external USB drive for the Wii. But if its not a drive, what else could it be?

Ultra-high-end solutions like this are regularly mocked. Audiophiles can’t tell you the difference between a coat hanger and outrageously costly cabling. Preying on the credulous is not a new business strategy, when you take the signal quality ploy and attempt to apply it to a non-analog source, alleging noticeable lossiness in a digital signal over 5 feet of wire, you’re more than a con man — you’re a goddamn comedian.

Hot on the heels of the announcement that iPhone users in Spain and the UK will get their iPhone 3G for free zip nada gratis zilch if they sign up for an $88-a-month plan, let’s see what Vodafone Italy is planning for its countrymen. Pay-as-you-go fans will be able to purchase an unsubsidized iPhone for either 499€ or 569, depending on the model. Translated into buckaroonies, that’s $770 or $877. What we want to know, however, is whether it will be unlocked or not. [Vodafone Italy]
