This adorable 800 DPI optical mouse with a built-in speaker slides out like a cellphone to reveal a keypad for VoIP calls. It has an LCD display for Caller ID and switches between mouse and phone functions automatically. It also looks much cooler than other combos we’ve seen. No word on price or availability. With ATI’s latest Radeon graphics card already getting benchmarked, I guess cardmakers decided it was silly to wait until June 25 for the official unveil—pretty much everybody is popping the Radeon HD 4850 right now—they’re all over Newegg and assorted other merchants. Built on a 55nm process with 512MB of DDR3 memory running at 1986MHz and a clock speed of 625MHz, it’s got 480 stream processors (480 was old number, it’s actually 800) and support CrossFireX up to four graphics cards. While the MSRP is $199, you can pick one up for about $174.99 after rebate. [Newegg]

I’ve seen some weird ideas before but this one takes the cake. ChengDaLi (CDL), a China tech company, is selling a heated mouse. When I read this I had just one question, “What purpose does this serve?” I guess there must be a lot of people out there that get a cold hand when using a mouse. I know some people get sweaty palms but that’s another issue — and one that’s already been addressed.

You would think most people would just wear a glove on their mouse hand if coldness was an issue. Also, what about the hand that doesn’t have a heated mouse, do you let that one get cold or do they sell a heated keyboard? Maybe there’s a demand for these in the frozen wastes of outer Mongolia.

Royal Caribbean’s new boat is massive. Really massive. The “Project Genesis” cruise liner, currently being constructed, will be 43% bigger than the Queen Mary II, currently the world’s largest ship. 1,180 feet long and weighing 220,000 tons, it’ll be able to carry more people from New Jersey down to the Caribbean than any ship before it.

5,400 people, to be exact. The ship is so massive that it has a “Central Park” the size of a football field in the middle, its own gigantic amphitheatre, and seven different “neighborhoods” that people will stay on. This thing is bigger than an aircraft carrier, people. It’s f’ing large.

It’s due to launch next year, and in 2010 a second ship of the same size will be unleashed as well. I’ll be staying far away from both of them. [Official Site via Boing Boing Gadgets]

‘Round April-time, some photos of a small form factor Dell PC started making their way through the series of tubes symbolizing the world wide web. This PC was adorned by a case made of fine bamboo and there was speak of some sort of “Eco PC” but the news came and went like so many lovers through a fertility clinic.

Today, however, it seems that the little Dell PC has resurfaced, except instead of bamboo, the case appears to be made out of discarded BluBlocker lenses. It’s what’s on the inside that counts, though, right? Well, there will apparently be some sort of Intel CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, DVD burner, HDMI, and DVI. So it looks like Dell’s gunning for your living room and that this might just be some sort of Media Center PC. The price should be decent, too, at potentially less than $700 with the “Studio Hybrid” PC (as its being called) becoming available sometime later this year.

Wi-Lan, a Canadian technology licensing company, has filed patent infringement lawsuits against Research in Motion (RIM), Motorola and UTStarcom. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, and alleges that the companies’ mobile devices and other equipment infringe patents held by Wi-Lan. Specific damages or remedies were not included in the filing.

Like many lawsuits of this type, it is impossible to determine an outcome at the start of the suit. Patent infringement cases are often very technical and can take years to litigate. Even more time can incur when the losing side decides to appeal the decision. Lower court judges, like federal district judges, will press for the sides to come to a settlement.

Wi-Lan recently announced it has cash reserves of nearly $92 million to litigate patent suits and negotiate settlements. Some in the industry have accused Wi-Lan of being a patent troll. A troll is a company that doesn’t make anything but holds patents for the sole purpose of suing others in the industry.

Alcatel-Lucent and SpeedCast Limited have announced this day that they plan to jointly market, deploy and operate a shared, hosted DVB-H platform for mobile Television operators in Asia. The objective of the collaboration is to enable delivery of video content to operators for transmission to devices supporting the DVB-H mobile TV standard. The service will enable mobile Television service providers to deliver more than 20 Television channels via satellite to their transmission towers for terrestrial broadcast (in the UHF band) to DVB-H handheld devices.

A hosted managed service grants operators to reduce the capital and operational expenditures associated with mobile TV service. It also ensures a faster time-to-market.

“This hosted mobile Television broadcast offering will help lower the danger to service providers associated with introducing a new service, while at the same time giving them the chance to provide their customers with attractively priced services and richer content offerings,” stated
Pierre-Jean Beylier, Chief Executive Officer of SpeedCast Limited.
