I first saw the Laser Television, LaserVue, at CES and was pretty impressed by it, but as with anything new, I was a bit skeptical. I saw the LaserVue from Mitsubishi the other day and I’ve to admit that it looks incredible. It was pitted against a plasma (presumably the Pioneer Kuro) and LCD and it was hands down the best of the bunch. The colors are completely stunning and so vibrant. A 65- and 73-inch Diamond LaserVue will start shipping in Q3 with the former being the first to market. Each set is 120Hz and is roughly 10 inches deep. You’ll want to check one out in person just to see the difference.

This summer, NYC is installing a handful of giant, 120-foot-tall waterfalls in the East River and under the Brooklyn Bridge. The art installation will be turned on fully tomorrow, but here are the first shots of the Brooklyn Bridge waterfall in action, taken during a pre-dawn test yesterday morning by photographer Vincent Laforet. It looks awesome. The waterfalls will be up for the next couple months, so be sure to walk across the Manhattan bridge and check them out if you’re in town this summer.

Research firm iSuppli Corp. estimates that the 8 gigabyte version of the upcoming iPhone costs Apple around $173 to manufacture. The handset goes on sale in twenty-two worldwide markets on July 11, with the cheapest model selling for $199 in the United Says. But Apple will make more money than the $26 difference between the sale price and manufacturing costs.

The retail price of the iPhone is subsidized by the carriers, who purchase the devices from Apple at a higher price and then sell them at a loss hoping to earn the money back through monthly service fees. In many markets, the carriers have the exclusive right to sell calling plans for the iPhone.

Researchers at iSuppli estimate that AT&T, the U.S. iPhone carrier, subsidizes each phone by $300. Other analysts have estimated the amount to be closer to $350. Either amount is a massive profit from a $173 manufacturing basis.

The profit margin for the upcoming iPhone is estimated to be higher than that of the original iPhone which came out last year. The old model was estimated to cost Apple $226 to manufacture, moderately higher than the $173 for the new version. Cheaper component prices account for the difference.

Those sly birds had us fooled! Their are they/aren’t they relationship—which ended, but Kathy Griffin is still talking about—apparently wasn’t a relationship at all. Or at least, wasn’t one that involved any exchange of bodily fluids.

Kathy explains that they “were dating, but were just friendly. I never fucked him or anything!” And that whole engagement thing? That was just Kathy putting on a fake ring and not telling him. Oh you! Way to screw with the media by semi-lying. Let’s hope this is the last time you try and get in the news for being connected to Woz. [Ed Note: I actually think it’s hilarious. Keep it up Woz and Kathy! - B.L.] [US Magazine]

Memorex has a crazy (and expensive) new DVD-R line called SimpleSave, which automatically scans your computer for pics and videos and burns them to disc. From the description, these $14.99 for 5 discs sound like they’re perfect for your parents or grandparents who don’t really know how to use a burner and have pics scattered all over their machines. If they’ve got more pics and vids than can fit on one disc, the software will tell them how many more they need to buy and will parse and burn accordingly. High-priced, but neat fort the new user. A real Iron Man would be too powerful for this world. That’s why origami artist Brian Chan used a bit of restraint while constructing his own super suit and utilized only one piece of paper for the fabrication. Our own Jason Chen calls it “beef jerky man.” Takes one to know one, Jason! Here’s a shot of just the little mask:

If the little Iron Man of art couldn’t crush us in his itty bitty fingers, we’d go Cute Overload on his ass and scratch behind those teenie weenie wittle Iron Man cheeks. [Brian Chan via Geekologie]
