The “exquisite,” “elite,” “extreme slim” Eee model, the S101 (as seen in the pyramid o’ Eee) has been caught in the wild. I think I’ll let the Google translation do the talking:

ASUS held on the 6th of that meeting, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen Xue on Apple with a paper bag containing Eee PC S101, the imminent end of a sudden display market, the law states that it will become the climax. This Taiwan Eee Computer S101 works with samples such as Apple Mac Air’s ultra-thin body, piano paint thickness of only 16 ~ 25mm, the main boutique market.
It is understood, S101 will adopt 10.2-inch LCD screen, processors still use Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz/512KB L2/533MHz FSB) match 945 GME chipset, will have 32 GB and 64 GB SSD configurations, priced at $ 699 and $ 899 U.S. dollars, is expected to Listed in mid-September.

The climax!

Especially as of late, pink is just about obligatory as a color choice for handsets. Even if it’s offered in 23 other colors, there remains a surprisingly big group of people who just won’t purchase it if it isn’t pink.

Well, anyone who has been holding out for a pink Curve is in luck: According to Engadget, Verizon will be offering the pinked out BlackBerry for $99 bucks after rebate on a 2 year contract, starting sometime in the next few days (possibly as early as tomorrow).

No fanfare for the new color, Vz? If this were launching on T-Mobile, the pink curve would be known as the BlackBerry Curve Baby-Girls-Bedroom or something.

Gartner is predicting the global sales of mobile phones will increase 11% this year; that’s 1.28 billion phones, compared to 1.15 billion sold in 2006.

But while the overall market looks pretty good, certain regions will experience declining sales this year, as ‘mature’ markets such as Western Europe, Japan and North America are reaching saturation.

Given this, the firm identified five key trends for mobile devices through 2009: established vendors will consolidate, as new manufacturers like Apple join the handset making fray; as prices for handsets fall, device makers will seek new sources of revenue, such as Nokia’s content and services push with its Ovi offering; as devices add more functionality, manufacturers will have to make those new functions even easier to use; style and branding will begin to play more of a role as devices become ‘lifestyle statements’; and finally, consumers will want to hold onto high-end devices longer, meaning manufactures need to make devices ‘field-refreshable,’ so more upgrades and updates for devices already in use.

IntoMobile is reporting that Samsung Singapore has released the first ROM update for the i900 Omnia Windows Mobile 6.1.

The firmware update repairs some bugs and includes new stuff like widgets for Samsung’s ‘Today’ screen and a new text input method for Chinese characters.

While we’re thrilled about updates and new stuff, don’t get too excited, so far the update is only available for Singaporean users, but hopefully that’s just the first step, and other updates will be available soon.

If there’s one lesson we can all learn from Goonies, it’s that looks aren’t everything. Take Sloth, for example. He was no Tony Danza but he had a massive heart. So don’t look at the Puma Disc Blaze “The Goonies Edition” sneakers and think about how you’ll probably only be able to wear them inside the privacy of your own home. Strap them on, wear them outside, and LIVE! – dammit – LIVE!

They’ll be available in early December from Overkill Shop (out of Berlin). Not sure about the price but sometimes with fashion, trends, and nostalgia, hideous costs a lot.
