It seems like each week, some analyst firm comes out and declares that HTC is going to miss its fall 2008 Android handset launch date. Each week, HTC then comes along and calls shenanigans on the claim, reassuring the masses that the handset is still on schedule. Rinse, lather, repeat.

This week’s naysayer is Global Equities Research, who claims that technical and minimum payment issues are bogging things down too much for it to launch on time. As was to be expected, an HTC spokesperson responded with:

1st: The reference in the article, that there’s a delay in the delivery, does not match the facts.
2nd: HTC still expects to the launch the first Android-based unit in the 4th Quarter (2008).

Who’s in the right? Who cares. With the lack of (good) Android news or SDK updates as of late, my interested in Android has faded drastically. Come on, Google - give us something to talk about.

Just yesterday, we mentioned that the BlackBerry Curve would be joining the mile long list of handsets being re-hashed in pink.

Turns out, it’s bringing a buddy. Verizon announced today that they would start shelling out pink BlackBerry Pearl 8130s alongside the new pink Curves starting this morning. If you’re lookin’ to put some pink in your life, you can find the Pink Pearl and Pink Curve at Verizon’s official spots for $80 and $100 bucks respectively (w/ 2 year contract) starting this day, and third party retailers on August 15th.

What a fantastic photograph. We could tell you the mundane truth behind what these glasses really are and what they really do, but let’s not spoil it. Let’s just enjoy a moment of unadulterated imagination by staring at these electronic clouds, molding them to any purpose we like. [ladyada’s tea party via MAKE]

I think this video above is quite a good begin, probably because it somehow reminded me of Prodigy’s Smack my bitch up-video. And it’s interactive, meaning you have to click on the annotations to get directed to another YouTube video until the story is brought to an end.

I was just tooling around in the app store looking to send over the link for PhoneSaber to my friend and it’s gone! The only thing that comes up is iSaber, which isn’t very good. A quick look at the publisher’s page confirms this and it looks like THQ Wireless has asked MacBox to take down the app on behalf of Lucas Arts.

Good news and bad news, PhoneSaber fans.

As of now, PhoneSaber will no longer be available, I’ve had a chat with a guy from THQ Wireless (who own the rights for Star Wars apps on mobiles) and apparently the guys from Lucas don’t want it up there anymore. They didn’t want to go down the attacking cease and desist route, so we’re being dealt with very amicably.

They want to do some sort of official, Star Wars branded version of PhoneSaber, and will be working with us on that one. I don’t know any information beyond that, whether they plan to charge for it, advertise with it or what, but we’ll keep you updated on as much as we’re granted to tell you.

Apologies to everyone who loved PhoneSaber, we didn’t really have much choice in the matter, but hopefully the official version will carry on being awesome where PhoneSaber left off.

TheMacBox will be continuing to make awesome stuff, including some great pay-for games, and some more awesome free apps.
